The Deep Meaning Behind Each and Every Tattoo on Roman Reigns Body

Roman Reigns is one of the most dominating and destructive in-ring performers in the current era of WWE. Ever since The Tribal Chief returned to WWE in 2020, he has been on a rampage. Reigns has destroyed every opponent that has stood in front of him.

And alongside his bloodline, he is on a different level. After defeating Jey Uso in a series of battles in 2020, he would take Jey and Jimmy Uso to form The Bloodline and add Solo Sikoa last year. All the members of The Bloodline hail from the legendary Anoa’i wrestling family, and have a Samoan tribal heritage. This has led to all the members of The Bloodline being inked with tribal tattoos.

When Roman Reigns made his main roster debut in 2012, he was not heavily inked and only had his right shoulder covered in a tattoo. However, as time passed, Reigns would put on more tattoos, and become heavily inked just like his ‘brothers’, Jimmy and Jey Uso.

How many tattoos does Roman Reigns have?

Roman Reigns proudly showcases the tattoos he has. A part of his culture and heritage, Reigns has never shied away from proudly showcasing this side of his Samoan culture. Similar to his cousins, Reigns proudly wears his culture’s ink on his body.

Roman Reigns does not have multiple tattoos, but instead often upgrades his existing ones. He would get himself inked at a very young age on his right shoulder, which is known as ‘Samoan Tribal Art’. And as time passed, he would start expanding the tattoo. With time, it has grown a lot and covers his entire right arm as well as right pec.

The Tribal Chief also has a tattoo of a turtle which represents his daughter, and a massive back tattoo.

Roman Reigns ‘Samoan Tribal Art’ Tattoo

At a very young age, Reigns would get his culture imprinted on himself. He would get the ‘Samoan Tribal art’ tattoo on his right shoulder. During his WWE main roster debut, his shoulder tattoo was visible. However, since then he has expanded the tattoo, making the initial one unrecognizable.

His Tribal art tattoo has also expanded and reached his pec, while also covering his entire right arm. It took around 17 hours to complete the art on his entire right arm.  The tattoos are tribal artwork and contain minute work and finely crafted details.

The ink pattern on his right art denotes victory marks sustained by a warrior during battle. His right arm tattoo was done by Mike Fotutoa.

Reigns’ Turtle Tattoo On His Wrist Is A Tribute To His Daughter

Roman Reigns also has a turtle inked on his wrist, which works as a tribute to his daughter. As per Reigns, the turtle denotes his relationship with his daughter, Joelle.

His wrist tattoo has an extremely deep meaning, and Reigns wears it proudly. He is a proud father and does not shy away from showing his bond with his daughter.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Bears A Similar Tattoo

Both Dwayne Johnson and Roman Reigns hail from the same legendary Anoa’i family. Both these superstars have a Samoan heritage and have tribal art inked on themselves. While Reigns has his entire right arm, chest, and shoulder imprinted with tribal art, Johnson has something different.

Dwayne Johnson sports a tribal art tattoo on his left shoulder, upper arm, and chest. He also has a bull tattooed on his right arm, however, it does not have any similarity with any tattoo of Reigns. Johnson’s left-arm tribal art has major similarities with Roman Reigns’ right-arm and his chest tribal piece.

Roman Reigns back tattoo

In 2020, Roman Reigns would unveil a major back tattoo for his fans. He would get the ink on himself after his victory against The Undertaker at WrestleMania which made him want to cry. Reigns’ back tattoo is an impressive display of art.

It was done by Tampa based Tattoo artist, Michael Fatutoa. The tattoo is extremely well crafted and is rich with details. Similar to his arm tattoo, Fatutoa aka ‘Samoan Mike’ did an impressive job in creating this piece of art on Reigns’ back.

Roman Reigns arm tattoo took 17 hours to complete

Tattoo artist, Michael Fatutoa is a genius when it comes to crafting tattoos and inking his customers. And, he did a similar job when inking on one of his most popular clients, Roman Reigns. Fatutoa is responsible for expanding Reigns’ right shoulder tattoo, ‘Tribal Art’.

He would expand the shoulder tattoo into a sleeve tattoo, while also expanding it to Reigns’ chest as well. The tattoo took a total of 17 long hours to complete, and it vividly displays Reigns’ culture, heritage, and legacy. The tattoo bears a resemblance to his cousins Jimmy and Jey Uso’s sleeve tattoos.

Tattoos of some other family members of Roman Reigns

Several members of the Samoan family in WWE have tattoos dedicated to their culture and heritage. Former late WWE superstar Umaga had multiple Samoan tattoos on himself. He had his two arms decorated in tribal art, while one was dedicated to his cousin, Yokozuna. Umaga also had the words ‘Samoa’ written over his torso.

Roman Reigns’ cousin, Jey Uso is also heavily inked and has multiple tattoos on himself, including the iconic tribal art sleeve tattoo. His brothers Jimmy and Solo Sikoa also proudly sport multiple Samoan tattoos on themselves.

The Anoa’i family is one of the most legendary families in the world of pro wrestling. And as legendary as the family is, their members also are the proud owners of multiple legendary tattoos which show a deep connection to their wrestling and cultural roots.
